Mid January.

Two weeks into the new year already! Time flies. We´re having proper winter weather these days, with lots of snow and freezing temperatures. All fine by me as long as it´s spring by March 1st (on the dot, please). It seems so much lighter already outside, although that is probably due to all the snow...

I´ve been spending all my money on table ware from Not Perfect Linen lately. I love their colors. This "Caffe mocha" table cloth is a new favorite. So so pretty. I bought sofa pillows (a custom order) in the same color and they are really really pretty too. I´ll show you soon.

Still baking bread! This one was a big success. Dare I say I am getting better at this? I still have a lot to figure out but things are improving. It´s funny how I´ve been baking decent bread for years but now that I´m pushing more out of my comfort zone I realize how much there is still to learn. Onwards and upwards!

Oh redhead. What would we do without you? Ludwig turns four on Tuesday. Ah, they grow up so fast. But seriously how can he be four already? We brought him home as a tiny puppy only like yesterday?

(For those with sharp eyes, that thing behind Ludwig is our broken dishwasher which unexpectedly and sadly died this week. Whyyyy. Buying a new dishwasher is *such* a not-fun way to spend money.)

Bonus picture! Ludwig is blurry because he was barking his head off for some reason, and Emma is totally like "whatever". Classic.

Happy birthday Ludwig! You often make me smile on the other side of the world! I wish you a happy year of hanging out with the pretty cats and chasing and smiling and barking and looking both elegant and goofy as always. Katrin, I see spring on your side board as small yellow buds are bursting open. It won't be long!

Beautiful photos! The absolute earliest the sun sets here is 4:35, at the start of December - which means it's pretty gloomy out by 4 pm in the run up to Christmas. But as soon as we hit the solstice, I try to encourage myself by keeping track of every day's added minute(s) of daylight. We just hit a 5 pm sunset today and in the last week of January we will start picking up 2 minutes extra per day of light (I can't say sun because the sun barely comes out for months on end). By the end of January, in my neck of the woods near Lake Ontario, sunset will be all the way at 5:30pm! So, this was a long and obviously way too detailed way of saying: it's not just you, it's not just the whiteness of the snow, it really is getting lighter already! Even if Spring comes late to the ball, at least we can have light to console us. And photos of Ludwig. :)

It is definitely getting brighter out. It makes the cold so much more bearable!

Your fur babies are beautiful! I noticed your gray and white floors in these photos - did you paint them yourself? Love them!

Gorgeous table linen! That bread looks perfect! I need to learn to make bread, in our house the husband makes it with bread machine. Sorry to hear about your kitten!! It's very hard to loose a beloved pet. Ludwig looks healthy, happy birthday to him!

RC -Right now, it´s dark by 5pm around here - not too bad. I remember when we lived in Vienna around solstice sunset was around 3pm. That was downright terrible.

Melanie - Yes I painted them myself! There´s a post somewhere about this, just search for kitchen floors.

Angela - Oh dear where did you read that we lost a kitten? Thankfully we didn´t! It´s our dishwasher that died!

Wow, I love your linens so much that I ordered some placements and napkins for myself. Thank you for the tip!
