Wow, it´s huge!

It´s the first thing people say when we show them pictures. Why yes, it is huge! Look at this picture, it´s hilarious. Thats me! I´m a very tall girl! And look how tiny I seem. (Also, I look like I have knock knees, which I can assure you I actually don´t).
The house has about 270 square meters of living space, 120 downstairs and 150 upstairs. Ready for some floor plan action?

Here´s downstairs. When you enter the hallway ("Flur"), the dining room/kitchen is on the right hand side and the living room on the left. The dining room ("Esszimmer") and the kitchen ("Küche") is more ore less one giant room which I love. Also the kitchen is North facing and not the brightest room (yes there are challenges too, actually quite a few- we´ll get to that!) but it gets lots of light from the huge South-facing windows in the dining room. The living room ("Wohnzimmer") is a lovely bright room. And then there´s another North-facing room ("weiteres Zimmer") which is a bit odd as it used to be two rooms and still looks like it (see? challenges!). It has the best views of the garden though! Some day, when we win the lottery, this will be a library/music room (I want a piano so badly!). Last but not least there´s a small guest bathroom under the stairs.

Upstairs! There used to be only one room upstairs, the one with the access to the balcony. Everything else used to be attic/storage space and has been converted only 6 years ago when the entire house has been renovated. We´ll turn the balcony room ("Gästezimmer") into our office. Next to it is a lovely big room ("Kind I") which will be our bedroom. Then there´s a small room ("Kind II") which will be our walk in closet (almost no storage spaces in this house - challenge!). There are two rather spacious bathrooms. And then there´s a huge huge loft space ("Eltern"). It´s a wonderful room with great light. The plan is to cut off this room and one of the bathrooms and convert the space into a holiday apartment with a separate access.
Whew. You´re right, it´s huge! I hope we won´t get lost in it!

Holy &/%§! This house IS huge! I'm so happy for you guys...Can't wait to see some pics from inside.
The house looks like it has a lot of history. Looking forward to seeing you settle in.
LOl, on the knock knees!
Feeling all the excitement!!! what fun!
These plans brings back memories of my childhood days when my father would gather the family around to go through a particular plan of a house he has put together and would ask us our opinions. He built three houses and we moved into each one of them. Sometimes we take a drive and we see these houses still standing beautifully with new owners now. :-)
It's huge in square metres but I can see the house has a good layout to the downstairs especially so it makes sense. It's so good that the dining room and kitchen are open plan, it's so much more sociable. Can you please translate weiteres (I guess that zimmer is room)?
Sally, "weiteres Zimmer" means "additional room". :)
Thanks all!
It's so lovely! And how awesome that the 1st floor has been renovated - less work for you I guess?!
There is a barn door on the left? Is there still a barn in the backyard?
Annika - yes, the entire house has been renovated and honestly, I´m so glad that we don´t have to worry about this and can move in straight away. I´ve been meaning to write about this...
The door leads into the backyard - and yes there is still a barn! :)
